Swansea Radio Base and SARCC
Perched on Swansea Head overlooking the Swansea Channel and bar, the Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie Radio Base co-ordinates and manages all communications for MRLM. This includes calls with Vessels in distress, Rescue Vessels, bridge bookings, Maritime and members of the public. The base is also the regional SARCC – Search And Rescue Co-ordination Centre for critical search and rescue operations.
Opened in November 2020, the facility was specifically designed to support MRLM volunteers in their work to keep watch over the boating community and save lives on the water. It is equipped with the latest generation of online marine radio technology for four radio operators and dedicated command and control facilities for planning, managing and coordinating extended and multi-agency search and rescue operations. The two-storey building also incorporates training/meeting space, storage for rescue equipment, offices, amenities and kitchen facilities, a viewing platform and a lift to improve access for volunteers living with a disability.
The SARCC’s Training Room hosts Training sessions for both volunteer members and the general public – boat and PWC licenses, SROCP radio courses and more.
