If you come on board as a member of Marine Rescue NSW, you’ll join more than 3,500 professionally trained volunteers who are committed to saving lives on the water.

Applicants do not need to bring specific skills, only commitment to join the busiest unit in NSW, Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie. Our members come from all walks of life and there’s a job for almost everyone, whether it’s crewing an offshore search and rescue vessel, maintaining radio communications at the base or providing fundraising, administrative or other support.

If you already have some boating or emergency service knowledge, that’s great. If not, our professional training courses are specifically designed to give you the skills and qualifications you’ll need, including first aid, sea survival, a NSW Maritime Boating Licence, Marine Radio Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency or more advanced ratings.

You’ll be part of a growing, vibrant organisation providing vital safety services to the boating community.

More than 25 percent of our members are women and we are committed to reflecting the community we serve, encouraging women, and individuals from non-English speaking backgrounds and varying ages to join us. Members must however be aged 16 years or older.

To get involved, please

  • go to the Become a Volunteer page on the Marine Rescue NSW website (or click the button below)
  • Complete the Expression of Interest form, and
  • Select “Lake Macquarie” in the “Select unit(s)” list.

We hold information sessions during the year to which you will be invited to attend to understand more about us, and the commitment required of all members
